Milky crust: What is it and how to treat it?

Milky crust: What is it and how to treat it?

The cradle cap or milky crust, is a form of infantile Seborrheic Dermitis, very common in babies, affecting 1 in 4 babies.
It appears in the first weeks of life and usually disappears until the first year of life.

It is characterized by the appearance of oily and yellow scales or crusts on the scalp, but it can also appear on the eyebrows, behind the ears and on the sides of the nose.

Several studies in pediatric dermatology indicate that the presence of maternal hormones still in circulation triggers the excessive production of sebum, which favors fungal infection, forming characteristic scales and scabs.

To treat the milk crust it is necessary:
  • Control sebum secretion;
  • Products with gentle exfoliating action, to help remove crusts;
  • Products with emollient and regenerating action;
  • Products with anti-oxidant and anti-irritant action.

D'AVEIA has a set of products indicated in the Cradle Cap!
Dr Dermoteca advises:

  1. At night apply, D'AVEIA Dermo-Oil Pediatric with a moistened gauze, massaging, with marked emollient action, which allows the crusts to soften.
  2. On the next morning, wash the baby's head with D'AVEIA Shampoo DS, which reduces sebaceous secretion and allows the crusts and scales to be highlighted. When applying the shampoo, massage it gently and let it act for about 1 minute. Rinse with warm water and gently wipe with a towel.
  3. With a special baby comb, gently remove the crusts.
  4. Repeat this procedure 3 to 4 times a week, alternating the other days with D’AVEIA Neutral Pediatric Shampoo, which helps to restore the physiological balance of the scalp.
